Sajjad Ahmad

I was born in a Muslim family on 6th, July 1982, in the city of Akora Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. I got my early and secondary level education in the same city and secured distinction both at school and college level. The Geology became my favorite discipline when I started studying it in graduation. In depth knowledge of geology helped me in compiling 75 % score in B.Sc (Hons) in 2001 and 80 % marks in M.Sc Geology exams in 2002-03. I became Lecturer in Geology at the University of Peshawar in 2007. In 2008, I was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship for PHD studies in Geology at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. In 2013-14, I went to the Edinburgh and Oxford Universities (2013-14) through Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship and to the Houston University USA (2016-17) as Fulbright scholar to perform a postdoctoral research. I have published more than 30 publications in journals of repute in Geology. Under the National Research Program for Universities (NRPU), after a nationwide competition I have won five Research projects (Around 30 Million Pak Rs) in the field of Geology (NRPU, 960 in 2008 as PI; NRPU 2872 in 2014 as Co PI; NRPU 3809 as Co PI; NRPU 6875 in 2016 as PI; NRPU 8589 in 2018 as PI). The international academic linages were established with the world renowned universities that include VU University, Amsterdam (Joint collaborative project in the field of Shale-Gas prospects in Pakistan in 2013-Present); Regina University; Canada (working on the Petroleum prospects of the Jurassic Rocks of the Indus Basin Pakistan; 2014); The Oxford University and University of Edinburgh, UK (working on the Torcian Anoxic Events, 2015); Houston University, Texas, USA (Shale-Gas Prospects of Pakistan, 2016-17) and several others. Currently I am an HEC Approved PHD supervisor and so far 10 MPhil/MS and one PHD (Geology) student from the Florida State University, 2 MS from the Regina University Canada have completed their research dissertations under my supervision/co-supervision. I am the reviewer of many International geological journals (i.e. Earth Sciences Review) My synergistic activities cover participation in various committees at national level (Board of Faculties; Academic Council, Board of Governors NCEG, and the Directorate of Science and Technology, KPK and the Energy Forum of Pakistan), that is providing social benefits to the academicians, students, industry personals, and policy makers. I am committed to work on novel strategies in the field of unconventional hydrocarbon exploration that will yield tangible outcome in improving the socioeconomic conditions of the people of Pakistan.
