Career Trajectory
Bio
Spyros Voutetakis was born in 1960 in Athens. He studied at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Polytechnic School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1978-1984). He completed his Ph.D. thesis titled "Modeling and Automatic Control of Batch Polymerization Reactor" as a Special Postgraduate Scholar. At the same time, he worked at the Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute (CPERI) as the administrator of the Institute's central computing system. Then, with the creation of the Laboratory for Environmental Fuel and Hydrocarbons (LEFH), he worked in the design and construction of the laboratory's prototype units as a collaborating
researcher. In 1994, he was elected as a Research Associate of the Institute in the area for Automatic Control and Development of Process Systems.
In 1999 he headed the design and development of the biomass cracking plant, which was a milestone for the development of the institute in this field. The relevant publication [1] has received 342 citations so far.
In 2001, in the framework of the LIFE: IMMACULATE project in cooperation with Hellenic Institute of
Transport (HIT / CERTH), he managed to attract a 200.000 € grant from the Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) for the construction of the first gas filling station (PV) for passenger cars. Following an ongoing scientific career in the field of alternative uses of NG and light hydrocarbons for the production of hydrogen in 2008,he became Director of Research (Researcher A) at the same Institute. He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Institute (SAC) and in 2016 he was elected president of the Institute's Scientific Council (ISC). Also, in the context of the special experience he has gained he is appointed as Chairman ofthe CERTH Technical Board since 2013 and from 2015 heads the Technical Services of CERTH.
