I have been a doctor since 1995, and a qualified Emergency Physician since 2001, with over 20 years of clinical, administrative teaching, and research experience. RESEARCH Despite limited resources, I have been able to accumulate a body of academic work. I was able to publish during the pandemic despite my increased duties as Medical Director of the EMD. I am passionate about the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in the emergency department. I have led the embedding of POCUS training for medical students and emergency physicians. I am a lifelong learner, and constantly seek to upgrade my skills. I am currently enrolled in the Certificate of Excellence in Teaching and Learning at UWI Mona (course completion imminent. ADMINISTRATION I have always contributed to the administration of the EMD. I led the adoption of the Emergency Severity Index at the UHWI, and subsequently at the national tool for triage at the UHWI During my tenure as Medical Director of the EMD significant strides were made. These are detailed below. I am particularly proud of the progress that was made under my leadership despite the COVID pandemic. - Creation of a new service for Point of Care labs and an additional revenue stream for the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) - Upgrade of the Physician staffing structure for the EMD - Upgrade of resuscitation equipment including advanced airway management and vascular access devices (video laryngoscopy, CPAP, intra-osseous needles) - Improved resource management through centralized access to key resources as a loss prevention strategy - Re-design of the emergency department to meet the requirements of the COVID-19 pandemic - Training of the emergency room technicians and phlebotomists in the EMD to do nasopharyngeal swabbing - The management of the new field hospital - Implementation of centralized vital signs monitoring systems in the Isolation rooms within the EMD - Renovation of the general staff rest areas - Renovation of ket patient care areas (treatment room, patient bathrooms) - Systemisation and documentation of the core and supporting processes for the EMD - Implementation of a dashboard to allow for KPI monitoring within the EMD - Successful completion of both the stage 1 and stage 2 audits for ISO 9001 QMS - ISO22870 certification of the Point of care testing area in the EMD (ongoing) Once achieved this will be a first in the Caribbean. - Preliminary work to establish the service level agreements with other departments necessary for the efficient functioning of the EMD - Placement of audio-visual equipment to aid teaching and learning in both seminar rooms - Increased educational opportunities for EMD and subspecialty doctors in the form of workshops in areas such as ECG interpretation, point-of-care ultrasound, sexual assault management, and others - Creation of the EMD Research Committee and maintenance of the EMD research office
