Dr. Sergio D. Paredes is a professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad) of the Department of Physiology at the School of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) and the Chair of the Department of Physiology of the Complutense University of Madrid. He teaches Human Physiology in the degrees of Medicine and Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and in the master of Psychopharmacology and Drug Abuse, and formerly, in the master of Translational Medicine. He has also lectured at University of Extremadura (Spain), University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (USA), Süleyman Demirel University (Turkey), Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico), University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), University of Guadalajara (Mexico), University of Guanajuato-Campus León (Mexico), and Universidad Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno (Bolivia). He is a member of the research group “Molecular Mechanisms Involved in the Cellular Response to Stress” (PI Prof. Elena Vara Ameigeiras) of the Complutense University of Madrid. His specialization and research interests are the physiology and pathophysiology of inflammatory response, oxidative stress and apoptosis, and their modulation by molecules with therapeutic potential in aging and surgery/transplantation.
