Rui Teixeira

Rui Teixeira received the Degree of Mechanical Engineer by the University of Aveiro - Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM-UA) in 2007 and a PhD in Energy Engineering by the Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic, in 2010. During his PhD research Rui Teixeira developed a modeling approach to simulate an innovative unit for pyrolysis and gasification of industrial solid wastes with low speed moving bed; this model was adapted from a general 1D model for pyrolysis and gasification reactors and the final thesis shows the capacity of the model to predict the output gas composition and the influence of the input parameters on the process. Rui Teixeira joined the University of Aveiro as an external consultant in 2011 to study the feasibility of a innovative medical application; this work reinforce a joint submission to the National Strategic Reference Framework (QREN-FP7) submitted by the University of Aveiro and the company Maxiplás (plastic industry). This submission was approved and as result Rui Teixeira joined the development group to look for an innovative medical application that could fulfill the requirements of the project. The final prototype was able to fulfill every technical specification being now in the process of certification and industrialization to future commercialization. During this research Rui Teixeira gave his contribution to develop an innovative drying and cure column to incorporate an heavy machinery for producing of cork stoppers from cork agglomerate that ensures a reduction on this stage duration, an improvement of the unit safety and a reduction of the energy consumption; during the development of the machine the group submitted a joint submission to the QREN-FP7 framework with the company “Mecânica Exacta – Heavy Machinery development” for a novel technology of cure using different methodologies for cure which was also accepted with over 0,3M€ of budget. Currently Rui Teixeira is coordinating a new project concerning solar energy utilization in buildings. Together with a partner widely experienced in water solar heating systems - T&T - they are developing an innovative modular solution to use solar energy for climatization and water heating. Rui Teixeira is effective member of the Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation (TEMA) of the University of Aveiro since February 2012 on the group of Applied Energy (AE).
