Bio
Rosaly M. C. Lopes received her B.S. in astronomy and Ph.D degree in physics and planetary science from University College London. She is currently the Deputy Director for the Planetary Science Directorate at JPL and a Senior Research Scientist. Her research expertise is in planetary volcanology and geology. She was a member of the Near-Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (NIMS) Team on the Galileo mission and a Collaborator on the New Horizons flyby of Io. She is currently collaborating with the Jovian Infrared Aurora Mapper (JIRAM) team on Juno investigations of Io. She is the lead editor of two books on Io (Io After Galileo, 2006, and Io: a New View of Jupiter’s Moon, 2023) and has published extensively on Io and other terrestrial and solar system volcanism. She is a Fellow of AGU, GSA, and AAAS.
