Bio
Ronald M. Welch (M'88) received the B.S. and M.A. degrees in physics from California State University, Long Beach, in 1965 and 1967, respectively, and the Ph.D. degrees in physics and meteorology from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, in 1971 and 1976, respectively.
From 1976 to 1978, he was a Research Associate with the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Colorado State University, and from 1978 to 1981, he was a Research Associate with the Institute fur Meteorologie, Johannes Gutenberg Universitat in Mainz, Mainz, Germany. From 1981 to 1982, he was an Associate Professor with the Department of Geophysical Sciences, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA. In July 1982, he assumed the position of Head of the Data Acquisition and Analysis Group, Institute of Atmospheric Sciences, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, and Associate Professor in the Department of Meteorology. In 1987, he was promoted to the position of Senior Scientist and in 1990 to the position of Professor. In 1997, he assumed the position as Chair of thee Department of Atmospheric Science, University of Alabama, Huntsville. He has over 200 publications in meteorology, environmental physics, air pollution, and remote sensing topics.
