Romesh Silva

Romesh Silva is a demographer. He is technical lead at the United Nations Population Fund for improving civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems. He also leads the Fund's work on population data/estimation in humanitarian settings. His research focuses on the development and application of demographic methods in low-/middle-income countries, and spans direct and indirect demographic methods, and in recent years has also included qualitative methods. He chairs the IUSSP Scientific Panel on Population Perspectives and Demographic Methods to Strengthen CRVS Systems. He serves on the National Academies of Science's Expert Panel on the Demography of Forced Migration. Romesh earned his Ph.D. in demography from the University of California, Berkeley. He is based in New York City.
