Research: Partial discharges and electrical trees. Electrical trees are defects which can grow in electrical insulation and can cause the failure of electrical equipment. This on-going research aims to get a better understanding of electrical treeing phenomena and the associated partial discharges. The study involves a full characterisation of electrical trees, including their fractal properties and the dynamics of the partial discharges involved in the degradation of electrical insulation.
