Robert A. Marshall (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, USA, in 2002, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA, in 2004 and 2009, respectively. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Ann and H. J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences, University of Colorado at Boulder, Boulder, CO, USA. He has previously held research positions at the Center for Space Physics, Boston University, Boston, MA, USA, and the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Stanford University. He is an author of the book Numerical Electromagnetics: The FDTD Method (Cambridge University Press, 2011) with U. S. Inan. His current research activities include the study of lightning–ionosphere interactions, radiation belt precipitation and atmospheric effects, numerical modeling and applications in space physics, and small satellite instrument development. Dr. Marshall received the First Place in the 2007 International Radio Science Union (URSI) Student Paper Competition. He was a recipient of the URSI Young Scientist Award in 2011.
