We have developed novel Monte Carlo models to simulate the induction and repair of clustered DNA lesions formed by ionizing radiation, including the effects of radiation quality (LET) and oxygen. These models are part of a more than decade-long effort to develop a multi-scale system of models to capture essential aspects of the early physical, chemical and biological processes underlying cell death kinetics. We are using these models to improve radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer.
