个人简介
I have had the great privilege of being involved with research on the human brain for over 40 years (1978 to the present). Our studies have been primarily targeted toward research on the molecular and cellular biology, genetics, chemical anatomy, cellular and regional pathology, and neurogenesis in the normal and diseased (Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Motor Neuron disease, Epilepsy) human brain. This has been made possible through my establishment of a Neurological Foundation Human Brain Bank in partnership with families and clinicians in New Zealand. Our human brain bank contains tissue from over 1000 postmortem human brains and neurosurgical biopsies. It is an invaluable internationally recognized resource because we have detailed information on the clinical and symptom profiles of each of the human cases in our brain bank. This enables us to correlate any changes in the diseased human brain with symptom profiles, and provides us with the opportunity to contribute significantly to our knowledge on the pathogenesis of these neurodegenerative diseases to a better understanding of the cellular and molecular biology of human brain functioning.
