Professor Richard O’Brien is Clinical Dean of the Austin Clinical School, University of Melbourne and Director of Graduate Programs and Executive Education for the Melbourne Medical School. He is a senior endocrinologist and Director of the Lipid Service at Austin Health. Prof O’Brien is President of the Asian Pacific Society of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Diseases and he currently chairs the Australian Diabetes Society expert committee on hyperlipidaemia. His research interests focus on diabetes, atherosclerosis and lipid abnormalities. In addition to his teaching and research commitments, Prof O’Brien maintains active clinical practice in Endocrinology and Diabetes.
