HE is a FCA (Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) and a FAcSS (Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences). Throughout his academic career Richard's research and teaching have been concerned with the application and adaptation of interdisciplinary and critical social science approaches to provide an understanding of and change in management, accounting and accountability practices, particularly in the public services. He has a wide range of sole and joint publications on these concerns in leading accounting and management journals, and in books and monographs. Richard has received a number of awards for his work including the British Accounting and Finance Association’s Distinguished Academic Award for his contribution to academic accounting. He has been Associate Editor of, and on the Editorial Board for, a range of leading interdisciplinary accounting journals. He has held visiting appointments in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji and made numberous presentations to conferences and workshops in the UK, Continental Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil and Fiji.
