I am interested in investigating the ways people manage to think and make sense together, with a focus on the role of linguistic coordination and semiotic artifacts. I am especially interested in the coordinative dynamics involved in effective collective cognition: use of pauses, prosodic adjustments, lexical alignment and the co-construction of shared conventions on how to coordinate. My research involves experimental investigations in how pairs and communities of people coordinate in order to solve problems together. I employ textual analysis and non-linear methods to analyze the data (graph theory, recurrence quantification analysis, phase space reconstruction and information theory). This line of research has also clinical implications. I am currently investigating language use patterns in socially impaired clinical populations, such as patients with schizophrenia, depression and Asperger's syndrome.
