Ramon Farre

Ramon Farré is Professor of Physiology at the Unit of Biophysics & Bioengineering of the School of Medicine of University of Barcelona, and until end-2022 was Coordinator of the Area “Respiratory, cardiovascular and renal pathobiology and bioengineering” of the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS. His research in pathophysiology is focused on respiratory diseases, both at cell and systemic level, and on the technological aspects related with the diagnosis and therapy of respiratory diseases, with special emphasis on mechanical ventilation and telemedicine for chronic patients at home. He is also deeply involved in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine research. Specifically, his research is aimed at lung bioengineering and at investigating the crosstalk between cells and extracellular matrix. He has recently focused on characterizing decellularized lungs as scaffolds providing a physiological-like environment for lung regeneration. He has published 240 peer reviewed papers in leading international journals. He was member of the Steering Committee of the European Respiratory Task Force on the Forced Oscillation Technique and of the Steering Committee of the European Concerted Action on Home Ventilation. He was Secretary and Head of the Group of Structure & Function in the European Respiratory Society. He served as Director of Education of the Spanish node of EIT-Health. He was now Secretary Group of Sleep Disorders in the European Respiratory Society. He is currently Associate Editor of the European Respiratory Journal.
