“Since my childhood, I was always passionate about making a difference in the world. Whilst working in the public health system I felt stifled and limited realising that medicine cannot survive on what is already known. I wanted to be someone or part of something that thinks of ways to discover new medicines and approaches to curb the impact of dreaded diseases. Clinical research offered me, and the patients I treat, the opportunity to be part of this bigger picture.” Dr Ronelle Moodliar is a Physician that incorporates Family Medicine into her unique approach to clinical research. Her attention to detail makes her the ideal Investigator, while her compassionate nature makes her the endeared family doctor. The combination is a Physician that sees the patient beyond the research participant who can develop concepts and implement structures that achieve the goal with patient care being priority. The focus of her career started in 2007 when she joined the drug-resistant TB department at King Dinuzulu Hospital. She has dedicated the past 12 years to clinical research in this field where she has been the principal investigator for leading trials working with sponsors such as the TB Alliance, MSF, Janssen pharmaceuticals and Vital Strategies. She served as part of the executive committee and the head of the clinical trial department at (THINK) Tuberculosis and HIV Investigative Network, where in the last 9 years she established three successful clinical trial units for TB research; trained and mentored more than 35 researchers; and successfully completed ground breaking trials for tuberculosis. She is now pioneering a mental health focused practice that will meet the growing demands for mental health services. The practice bridges the gap between primary and tertiary levels of care for mental health.
