Robert Dittus, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He has devoted over 40 years to healthcare quality improvement and his research and leadership contributions have led to the improvement of the effectiveness, efficiency, timeliness, safety and equity of health care.
He has secured over $350 million in grant funding and has over 250 publications. He has advanced the methodology of medical decision-making and delineated the comparative effectiveness of alternative strategies for clinical care. He has served as the chief of general internal medicine at Vanderbilt, the founding director of the Vanderbilt Center for Health Services Research the founding director of the Vanderbilt Institute for Medicine and Public Health, the founding director of the Tennessee Valley Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center and the founding director of the Vanderbilt-VA Quality Scholars Program.
