Bio
Cláudio da Silva Horas is a Structural Engineer, currently developing his scientific activity as a post-doctoral researcher at Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (FEUP) as member of CONSTRUCT, a scientific research unit that covers several fields. He is also member of the Portuguese Association of Engineers (OE).
The researcher has several peer-reviewed publications in international journals, focusing his research work on structural analysis of railway bridges, metallic materials and threats to structural integrity such as fatigue, proposing methodologies to extend the service life of aging infrastructure, addressing environmental and sustainable concerns.
Cláudio da Silva Horas holds a Ph.D. degree from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, after the presentation of the dissertation entitled "Integrated Methodology for Fatigue Life Prediction of Existing Railway Bridges" (2021), having been approved with distinction (cum laude).
After completing his Ms.C. degree at FEUP in 2011 (17 out of 20) with the thesis entitled " Dynamic behaviour of railway bridges with precast deck for high speed traffic " (19 out of 20), the researcher worked as Structural Engineer at Adão da Fonseca Engenheiros Consultores, Lda. This time in industry between 2011 and 2015 allowed him to develop diversified skills, working in the design of high-rise buildings, bridges and special structures.
Specialisation: fatigue assessment; structural analysis; dynamic Analysis of special structures; medium/high rise buildings; steel structures; composite structures and reinforced concrete structure.
