Specialization in physical chemistry and electrochemistry. Theses on the properties of fluoride ion-selective electrode.
1974 – 1977: Stay at the Department of Metal Physics of the Institute of Physics CSAV in Prague. Growth of single crystals of metals. University title RNDr.
1977 – 1978 Military service.
1978 – 1982 Postgraduate study in the Department of Metal Physics. Study of silicon distribution in Fe-Si single crystals.
1983: Scientific title CSc. (equivalent to PhD.).
from 1982: Scientific worker in the FZU – Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Department of Dielectrics. Growth and basic characterization of dielectric crystals possessing structural phase transitions.
1987, 1988: Stay at the University of Saarland, Saarbrücken (6 months, 2 months). Growth and characterization of TSCC single crystals.
1989 – 2009: Head of the technology group of the Department of Dielectrics.
1995 – 2003: Thermodynamic characterization of phase transitions in liquid crystals using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).
from 1996: Principal investigator and co-investigator of several projects of grant agencies Czech Science Foundation, Ministry of Education – COST, Ministry of Industry and Trade. Member of the Management Committee of the COST projects.
from 1999: Preparation and basic characterization of dielectric (ferroelectric, multiferroic, piezoelectric) materials in form of ceramics, (nano)powders, films and crystals.
2000: Guest editor of the journal Ferroelectrics.

Principal activities in last 5 years:
• Preparation of variety of dielectric (mainly ferroelectric, multiferroic and piezoelectric) materials in forms of ceramics, (nano)powders, nanoparticles, nanosuspensions, films, (nano)composites and single crystals. The techniques used were solid state synthesis using mechanochemical activation, hydrothermal and solvothermal synthesis, sol-gel technique, combined sol-gel-solvothermal synthesis and crystal growth from solution.
• Search and basic thermodynamic characterization of structural phase transitions in these materials by differential scanning calorimetry.
• Characterization of electrical activity of ferroelectric biomaterials by measurement of zeta potential at solid-liquid interface.
• Hydrothermal deposition of biocompatible ferroelectric BaTiO3 coatings on Ti and Ti39%Nb substrates with perspective application for bone implants.
• Processing of samples for spectroscopic measurements – etching, thinning.
