Dr. Lim Po Teen began his academic career at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in the year 2000 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer (2008) and Associate Professor (2013). He joined the University of Malaya in January 2014, to lead the newly established Bachok Marine Research station and Associate Professor at the Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences. Teaching and Supervision In 20 years of his academic career, Po Teen responsible for teaching and course development at undergraduate to postgraduate levels. More than 60 final year project (FYP) students, 24 MSc students, and six (6) Ph.D. candidates have completed their studies under his supervision. Currently, he is supervising 3 MSc students and 6 Ph.D. candidates. Research and Development As the leading researcher in Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) research in Malaysia, he has contributed to the R&D of HABs in the country. He has published more than 150 papers, including 80 ISI papers from research undertaken through national and international research collaborations. He has delivered >100 presentations at national and international conferences, with an H-index of 21 (Web of Science), >1280 total citations (updated June 2020). To date, he has secured and completed more than 20 research projects funded by national and international agencies worth more than MYR 4m. National and International Recognition, Leadership Currently, he is vice president of the International Society for the Study of Harmful Algae (ISSHA) (2018-2020), Editor of Harmful Algae (2018-Present), Vice-chair of IOC SCOR GLOBALHAB Program (2016-2019, 2020-2022), National group leader JSPS research and education network, IOC WESTPAC Toxic Marine Organism (WESTPAC-TMO) (2010-Present), and Harmful Algal Blooms (WESTPAC-HABs) programs (2010-Present); an international advisory committee member of Xiamen University Dongshan Swire Marine Station. Senior Visiting Fellow of State Key Lab in Marine Environmental Sciences (2018-2019, 2020-2021), Xiamen University. He is also the expert panel of the National Technical Working Group of Biotoxins and HABs, Task Force of Import/Export Seafood product and safety DOF Kelantan. Po Teen is a registered consultant under the Natural Resources and Environmental Board (NREB) and a registered subject specialist under the Department of Environment Malaysia (DOE). He is actively involved in consultancy projects whenever his expertise in marine science is needed. He also served as a council member of the Malaysian Society of Marine Sciences (MSMS).
