个人简介
Pier Francesco Biagi got his degree in Physics in 1968 at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. From 1973 to 1993 he was Professor (at first Assistant and then Associated) of Applied Geophysics at the Faculty of Science of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. From 1994 he has been Full Professor of Physics at the Science Faculty of the University of Bari. In the period 2005-2010 he has been the Director of the Department of Physics of the University of Bari. For more than 40 years he has carried out researches in Applied Physics, Physics of the Environment, Natural Hazards and Seismology. His main research has been the study of the earthquake precursors. From many years he has cooperated strictly with Russian, Georgian and Japanese researchers in this study. In particular, he investigated the parameters: ground tilt, Radon content in groundwater, ground resistivity, ions and gases content in groundwater, flow rate of natural springs. During last 15 years, his research was mainly on the natural electromagnetic emissions and on the disturbances on LF-VLF radio-waves propagation during the preparatory phase of strong earthquakes. In this framework in 2009, he created the European radio network INFREP (http://www.infrep-network.eu/) for studying the radio precursors. Moreover, during 2017 he was invited by the Institute of Geophysics of University of Teheran (Iran) for: a) presenting the VLF/LF radio waves propagation and the possible pre-seismic disturbances, b) planning a network of radio receivers in Iran. The network was realized in two years and now it is into operation. He has been the Italian scientific responsible for the CEE projects: a) “Multi-disciplinary Earthquake prediction programme” with partners: Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Georgian Republic and Turkmenistan; b) “Survey of anthropogenic and geophysical electromagnetic perturbations in the ionosphere with the MIR station” with partners: France, Italy, Russia, Israel, Ukraine and Georgian Republic. He was the Italian scientific responsible of the project “Disturbances in VLF-LF radio-signals related to seismic activity” included in the VII Executive Program of cooperation in the fields of science and technology between the Government of Italy and the Government of Japan. He is author of the chapter “Frequency and severity of earthquakes. Earthquake and volcanic event prediction” on the UNESCO Encyclopaedia of Life Support Systems; He is author of about 200 papers, published mainly on International Journals.
From 2021 he is an active member of Georgian National Academy.
From November 2014 he is retired as Professor at University of Bari. Actually, he is Visitor Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of University of Rome Tor Vergata. Moreover, he is the manager of the INFREP cooperation previously mentioned.
