I have directed an NIH-supported independent research program since 2000. My current focus is on the molecular pathology underlying ectodermal dysplasias (ED), a group of inherited disorders that affect many organ systems, including the skin and the eyes. In addition to using genetically engineered animal models, we develop human stem cell-based (induced pluripotent stem cell; iPSC) models to analyze disease mechanisms and provide proof-of-principle for new stem cell-based therapeutic approaches
