Peter G. Huggard

Peter G. Huggard (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.A. (Mod) degree (Hons.) in experimental physics and the Ph.D. degree from Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland, in 1987 and 1991, respectively, with a focus on the generation and detection of short-pulsed terahertz radiation. After post-doctoral research at universities in Regensburg, Germany, and Bath, U.K., and lecturing in physics at Bath, he joined the CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire, U.K., in 2000. He is currently a Research Council’s Individual Merit Band G and the Leader of the Millimeter Wave Technology Group. He also leads new terahertz technology development at the Millimeter Wave Technology Group, working on detectors, sources, filters, instruments, and instrument calibration technology. He is a chartered Physicist. He also holds a visiting professorship at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University College London, London, U.K. He has authored over 60 refereed publications and acts as a referee for several international physics and engineering journals. Applications of his work include active and passive remote sensing of the Earth’s atmosphere, and radio astronomy. Dr. Huggard is a Senior Member of the OSA.
