He is a general and gastrointestinal surgeon and has been an Editor of SJS since 2009. He is the past-president of the Finnish Society of Surgery, current council member of The International Gastric Cancer Association and member of European Surgical Association. He has published over 200 original articles, numerous review articles, editorials and book chapters. He is a member of the International Editorial Board of JAMA Surgery. Pauli’s hobbies include boating, golfing and hiking in the mountains.
