Dr P. O Collinson MA MB BChir FRCPath MD FACB FRCP edin.EurClinChem. Consultant Chemical Pathologist at St George’s Hospital and Professor of Cardiovascular Biomarkers at St George’s Medical School. Studied at St Catharines College, Cambridge (Preclinical medicine then a final degree in Biochemistry) before transferring to St Thomas Hospital, London to complete clinical training. Initial posts (orthopaedic surgery and general medicine) followed by a short period as a single-handed GP. Trained in Pathology (St Thomas Hospital) and Chemical Pathology (Royal Free Hospital and West Middlesex Hospital) Appointed consultant at The Mayday Hospital Croydon. May 1999 appointed Consultant St George’s Hospital. Doctoral thesis on early diagnosis of AMI with subsequent work on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of acute coronary syndromes. A special interest the cost economics of cardiac care and point of care testing and has performed two prospective RCT’s on point of care testing, one of which won the first EFCC labs are vital award.. Professor Collinson has written over 220 papers and review articles, over 230 abstracts and 15 book chapters. He was recently nominated by the Science council as on of the top 100 UK scientists.
