My main research interest is the role the environment plays in the lives of aquatic plants and other marine photosynthetic organisms. We focus our research around three themes: physiology, landscape stressors, and restoration. For ecophysiological studies we have looked at the role light plays in limiting submerged aquatic vegetation and also shading of marsh plants by pier structures. Using chlorophyll fluorescence allows us to understand the effects of multiple stressors on photosynthesis of seaweeds, seagrasses, and coastal vascular plants. Mapping this information allows managers to better appreciate the role of human disturbances on natural coastal habitats.
