Having participated in several national and international projects (some as core CV), he was recently the coordinator at CINTESIS of the NanoSTIMA project (funded by NORTE2020), whose funding for the unit was over €1.1M, leading the research line dedicated to Health Data Analysis and Decision. His research and international collaboration led him to publish more than 120 articles in journals and indexed proceedings and book chapters, conducting more than 120 scientific communications, as well as coordinating the scientific review team of various international events in the areas of data science (e.g. ECMLPKDD 2015) and medical informatics (e.g. CBMS 2013, 2015, 2017), having been appointed Steering Committee Chair of the Computer-Based Medical Systems conference between 2016-2018. He is frequently invited as a speaker in international health data science panels and was the rapporteur of the sub-theme Digital Health and Medical Technologies of FCT Health Agenda. Having reviewed more than 300 articles for top journals and conferences, he also regularly serves as a project reviewer for the National Science Center in Poland. Regent of more than 75 editions of curricular units (at FMUP, Porto Business School and IPLeiria) in clinical decision support systems, medical informatics, data science, biostatistics, and research methodology, supervises 12 PhD students (8 finished) and 3 master's degree (31 finished dissertations), having participated in more than 50 master's and doctoral juries. He was been the director of the postgraduate course in Informatics in Health and has been a member of the scientific committee of the Master in Medical Informatics of FMUP since 2012. Most recently, led the proposal to create and is the current director of the doctoral program in Health Data Science at the University of Porto.
