Paula Ferreira is a researcher in Educational Psychology at the Research Center for Psychological Science (CICPSI) of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon (FPUL). She finished a Postdoc in Educational Psychology at the Research Center for Psychological Science (CICPSI) of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon (FPUL) and at the Institute of Systems and Computer Engineering, Research and Development (INESC-ID) at the Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa in Lisbon. She is an Invited Assistant Professor at the FPUL. She has a PhD in Educational Psychology and a master’s degree in Education. She is currently responsible for the Cyberbullying Line of Investigation of the Research Group entitled Educational and Vocational Psychology at CICPSI. Paula has been a researcher in funded projects, such as "Cyberbullying: The regulation of behavior through language" with FPUL and INESC-ID and the "Problem-solving Project" with FPUL and the Lisbon City Council. Her main research interests focus on cyberbullying, moral agency, the bystander effect, self-regulation of learning, emotions, motivation and behavior, as well as technology (i.e., serious games, affective and moral computing) to promote learning and pro-social behavior.
As a form of internationalization, Paula took her PhD at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon and at the Institute of Psychology of the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany. She is also determined in participating in and establishing new research networks, some of which already include an ERASMUS Protocol + with the University of Cordoba, Spain, the CAPES-Print Internationalization Post-Graduation Program in Education with the Faculty of Education of the University of Campinas in Brazil, the TACONET Network, The Kaleidoscope Network of SRL in Technology Enhanced Learning Environments (TELEs), Network 16 ICT in Education and Training, as well as the Study and Research Group of Self-regulated Learning of the Federal Univerity of Pelotas, the Research and Teacher Professionalization and Identity Group and the Study and Research Group in Psychopedadogy of the University of Campinas in Brazil. Moreover, Paula is insistent regarding the national and international dissemination of her work in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
In terms of skills and other professional activities, Paula is bilingual in English and Portuguese (having studied in the USA from primary school to university and in Portugal in higher education studies), which has allowed her to work as a freelance translator since 2007. She has also developed her skills in qualitative (e.g., content analysis with N-Vivo) and quantitative analyses (e.g., multivariate analyses, structural equation modeling, multilevel modeling, time series analyses, Rasch Analyses) with specific software (e.g., SPSS, AMOS, WINSTEPS, FACTOR and E-VIEWS, respectively) and research methods (using digital platforms such as Qualtrics) in Psychology and Education. She has also been committed to reviewing for many peer-review journals, such as Educational Psychology, Computers in Human Behavior, Computers & Education, among others.
As a way of contributing to the well-being of the extended community, Paula has also participated as a volunteer in research and intervention projects such as "ComViver in Primary Education, Intervention in bullying and cyberbullying contexts in primary education" and the "Study Program for Self-Regulated Learning" from the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon; "From the meanings to self-regulation: perspectives of students with unsuccessful academic trajectories" from the University of Pelotas in Brazil and "Social Adventure" from the Faculty of Human Mobility of the University of Lisbon.
