Ozgur Sahin received the Ph.D. (summa cum laude) degree in cancer systems biology/cell biology from the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany, in 2008. He is a Professor and the SmartState Endowed Chair at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Hollings Cancer Center, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Charleston, SC, USA. Previously, he held positions as a Research Team Leader at the Division of Molecular Genome Analysis, DKFZ; a Research Faculty at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Oncology, MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC), University of Texas, Austin, TX, USA; an Assistant Professor at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey; and an Associate Professor at the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences, University of South Carolina (UofSC), Columbia, SC, USA. Dr. Sahin has received many awards, including the Presidential Coin for Research Excellence from the President of UofSC and the TUSEB Aziz Sancar (Nobel Laureate) Science Incentive Award from the Health Institutes of Turkey.
