Currently I am the Associate Dean/Director of Medical Education in the Armed Forces College of Medicine (AFCM) in Egypt. Within two months, I was able to connect all networks in AFCM; and established rules for closing the assessment-quality loop. In 2019, I designed software for workplace-based assessment for assessment and evaluation of clinical trainees at all stages of their training. In October, 2021 I presented a proposal for an EPA-based internship program which extends for two years in the new curriculum in a National Forum held by the Central Egyptian Medical Training Authority (CEMTA) which was decided to be adopted as the national internship program. The program has a digitized tracking system designed by my team and me to facilitate the implementation of Programmatic assessment. In AFCM, I set an effective borderline students’ remediation cycle with closed feedback loops; set policies and procedures for an effective assessment and curriculum cycles with multi-level reporting system. In 2020, with my team, we integrated a longitudinal module on “Humanities in Medical Practice” in the undergraduate curriculum which was described as exemplary by curriculum experts in Michigan State University and STILL University. I also designed with my team a unique Master’s program in Health Professions Education that is “Competency-EPA-based”. It is the second worldwide that is designed as such. It will serve both the local and global community and became the director of that program. In March, 2021 I was awarded the position of adjunct faculty in Michigan State University.
In 2008 till December 2018, I worked as a Professor in the Medical Education Department and Head of Curriculum Unit in Faculty of Medicine in King Abdulaziz University (FOM-KAU) in Jeddah, KSA. I participated in founding the Medical Education Department in the (FOM-KAU) in 2009 and was commissioned as the Dean’s consultant in Curricular Affairs. I founded and headed the Quality and Academic Accreditation Unit. I participated in setting the policies and procedures for medical curricula in KAU. In 2017, I was assigned to be a consultant for the Deanship of Quality & Academic Accreditation in the Vice Presidency of Quality & Development. With my team we led a successful accreditation process in the (FOM-KAU) in May 2017 that is based on interaction among the social, technical and managerial networks, thus ended in outstanding commendations crowned by earning a full accreditation for seven years and described as “Exemplary Internal Quality Assurance System”, which succeeded in closing the “Quality Assessment Loop” with high quality and a meaningfully analyzed reporting system based on evidence-based evaluations with performance indicators and benchmarking. I was assigned as senior consultant in enhancing quality and educational development for Health and Non-health Professions Colleges: Nursing, Pharmacy, Arts & Humanities, Engineering, Medical Applied Sciences, Dentistry and Law. In 2018, I was commissioned to become a consultant in the National Center for Assessment & Academic Accreditation- Education Evaluation Commission (NCAAA- EEC) in KSA; and an international associate in the Center for Learning Innovations and Customized Knowledge Solutions (CLICKS) in UAE. In June, 2018, I was selected as an esteemed reviewer by the American Education Research Association (AERA) for the 2019 AERA Annual Meeting in Toronto Canada; and earned a certificate as “Certified Item Author” in the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS). I participated in establishment of and was a consultant in the Assessment and Examination Unit; and a consultant in the Main Assessment Committee and put the policies and procedures concerning assessment. I developed software to measure the “Quality Metrics” of theoretical and clinical exams. I also designed software for exam blueprinting which directly links items with learning outcomes hence facilitating direct measurement of achievement. I initiated the design of “multi-dimensional mapping” system for “competency-based curricula”. I participated in the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of a number of education reform projects as Establishment of an Internal Quality Assurance System and Curriculum Reform in the FOM-KAU; introducing technology into the medical curriculum (to overcome the increasing number of students and most importantly to enhance their engagement in the educational system), and a project on the Development of an advanced curriculum for program directors in the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
In 2016, I was assigned as a reviewer in the Medical Teacher Journal (SS) followed by an appointment to become a reviewer in the Medical Education Online Journal; and recently in May 2020, as reviewer in Health Professions Education Journal. I am also subscribed as reviewer in MedEdPublish e-journal.
