Erice Oihane

I am a Biologist and Biochemist by the University of Navarra (2011). I obtained my master´s degree MSc Cancer Research and Molecular Biomedicine at The University of Manchester (UK) in 2012. During my master studies, I worked in two different groups related with cancer research. I first worked in Dr. Jason Bruce’s group at the Physiological Systems & Disease department, studying Pancreatic Cancer. My second rotation was carried out in Professor Claudia Wellbrock’s group at the Molecular Cancer Studies department, focused on Melanoma research. The work I performed during the master was recognized by the conferral of the Outstanding Achievement Award MSc Cancer Research and Molecular Biomedicine and I participated in several publications (James A et al, J Biol Chem. 2013; Erice O et al, Mol Cancer Ther. 2015; Arozarena I et al, Mol Cancer 2014). I did my PhD in Biomedical Research in Dr. Jesús María Bañales’ group at the Liver Diseases Group in the Biodonostia Research Institute, granted by a PhD AECC fellowship and supervised by Dr. Jesús María Bañales and Dr. María Jesús Perugorria, obtaining my PhD degree in 2017 with Cum Laude mention. During my PhD, I worked in liver and cancer research, trying to find new molecular targets for several cholangiopathies, such as Primary Biliary Cholangitis and Cholangiocarcinoma. Part of the projects I was involved in were presented in different national and international congresses and published in high impact journals (Erice O and Munoz-Garrido P et al, Hepatology 2018; Erice O, Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Basis Dis. 2018). During this period I also collaborated in the development of other well-recognized publications related to cholangiopathies (Arbelaiz A et al, Hepatology 2017; Merino-Azpitarte M et al, J Hepatol. 2017; Munoz-Garrido P et al, J Hepatol. 2015; Urribarri AD and Munoz-Garrido P et al, Gut 2014). Moreover, I am co-inventor of a patent in one of the works (PCT/US17/26931). During the master’s and PhD studies I developed skills in laboratory work -such as cell culture, molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA/protein), gene expression and flow cytometry-, in data analysis, as well as in animal handle. I am actually working as a postdoc enrolled in Dr. Silvestre Vicent’s group at CIMA, funded by a ‘Juan de la Cierva-Formación’ grant. Our group is focused on the study of relevance of KRAS mutations in tumorigenic processes such as lung, pancreatic and bile duct cancers, trying to define new therapeutic targets. I have gained more experience in in vitro and in vivo experiments, getting also expertise in miRNAs, 3D culture mouse models and animal models among others. I have been actively involved in a project recently published in the well-recognized journal JCI (Valencia K et al, J Clin Invest. 2020) and in a work that is actually under second revision in Journal of Hepatology (Vallejo A, Erice O and Entrialgo R et al, J Hepatol. under review). In addition to the contributions described above, I participated in at least 21 presentations in national and international congresses. 14 where presented as a poster and 7 where oral presentations. In summary, I participated in 12 publications (all in PubMed), which have been cited 248 times, with a mean of 33.4 cites/year during the last 5 years. I am the first author in 5 of the publications, 11 are in Q1 journals, 6 in D1 journals and 2 are in TOP3. My Hirsch Index is 8.
