CURRICULUM VITAE PROF. DR. NELLY VLADOVA GEORGIEVA Prof. Dr. Nelly Georgieva graduated in Biology in 1987 at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria and obtained her PhD in Microbiology 1997 at the Institute of Microbiology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. From 1997 to 2000 she has Post graduated fellowship of DAAD Agency of Germany in agricultural microbiology at the Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. She is affiliated with the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy in Sofia, Bulgaria since 2000 and is holding the position of full professor of Microbiology since 2017. Since 2012 she is also the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and System Engineering at the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, and since 2021 she is Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and System Engineering at the same University. Her research is focused on the field of synthesis and characterization of hybrid materials with incorporated metal ions such as silver, copper and zinc ions. The research activities of her interest includes: monitoring of the antimicrobial activity of the hybrid materials. Study of the cytotoxicity and biocompatibility of the hybrid materials with various antibacterial elements included. One potential application is also the use of the hybrid materials for immobilization of the microorganisms which was further used for removal of heavy metals ions from artificial wastewaters. Metallic ions accumulation in the microbial cell can lead to development of new alternative biotechnological methods for treatment and detoxification of different industrial pollutants. Prof. Nelly Georgieva has participated many international and national projects, coauthor in monographies and many publications, text-books for students, and supervisor of PhDs and MSc students.
