Neil's research is concerned with the systems modelling and control of pharmacological, biomedical and biomechanical processes, with an emphasis on model selection and validation. He has particular expertise in structural identifiability analysis, which addresses the key problem of determining whether the parameters of a postulated mathematical model can be estimated uniquely if perfect data were available. Such analysis is an important prerequisite for parameter estimation and experiment design.
