Nazaré Couto holds a BSc and a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Technologies, from Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (FCUP) and since 2011 works in CENSE – Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research, NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA). She is the Coordinator of the Research Area “Bioresources and Green Technologies” in CENSE (Out 2021 - Out 2025) and an elected Member of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering Council. Nazaré is Principal Investigator (PI) of the FCT NOVA team in two Interreg SUDOE projects in the thematic of environmental remediation, pollution assessment and circular economy - CEMOWAS 2 (SOE2/P5/F0505) and 4KET4REUSE (SOE1/P1/E0253) - being responsible for scientific, laboratorial, and human resources management, including the supervision of postgraduated research (MSc, PhD, Post- Doc). ~30 SCI articles, 1 book Editor, 17 book chapters, ~500 citations, h-Index of 12 (Scopus database, Nov 2021), 1 PhD Thesis supervision; 7 MSc Thesis supervisions or co-supervision. She got scientific employment fellowships/contract financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (PhD, Post-Doc, and Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEECIND/04210/2017)) and team member of national and European Projects (e.g. e-THROUGH - H2020-MSCA-RISE-2017-778045, ELECTROACROSS - FP7-PEOPLE-2010-IRSES/MC-IRSES-269289). Nazaré was a collaborator of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) on the Journey Educational Program - Local Manager (EIT Climate-KIC Hub Portugal; 2017 and 2018), and Trainer in the Water Academy for Spain on the European Green Deal thematic (EIT Water Manufacturing; 2020). She also collaborates with University of Porto (FCUP) teaching Soil Remediation Technologies at MSc level. Nazaré was a visiting scholar in several international universities (China, Denmark/Greenland, Spain, Italy, and the US) and is a member of the International Water Association (IWA) and the American society for testing and materials (ASTM).
