I have been working as PDRA (since 2021, LJMU) in pharmaceuticals developing inhalation nanoformulations for vaccine delivery. This post enhanced my skills to evaluate different antigenic candidates, and their stability, investigating their immunogenicity using in vitro cell lines. During this period, I developed a bigger network and collaborations with many academic institutions; nationally and internationally, and industrial companies resulting in patent registration and progressing to meeting industrial requirements for scale-up. In addition, our group is interested to develop 3D cell models and validate microfluidic cell models to replace animal testing for pulmonary system delivery.
A few years back, I obtained my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in nanotoxicology where the evaluation of polymeric nanocarriers for pulmonary drug delivery was carried out using in vitro cell lines, from Liverpool John Moores University, entitled 'Toxicology and Cellular Interactions of Polymer-based Nanocarriers for Pulmonary Drug Delivery'. Upon completion of my Ph.D., I have joined the FDD group as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Liverpool John Moores University, developing vaccines for inhalation delivery using nanocarriers.
My research is involving many interests from formulations of nanocarriers and microcarriers to drug delivery, toxicology, polymeric materials, cell biology, and toxicology. I published many conference abstracts and presentations, book chapters, and peer-reviewed research articles. These publications contributed to the science pool by reviewing the up-to-date knowledge regarding the generated nanoparticles types so far, and the nanotoxicological potentials of pharmaceutical, environmental, and occupational nanoparticles with a focus on the mucosal contact and pulmonary route of delivery. I had presented many talks and poster presentations to present my findings to the scientific community and challenge some of the commonly employed assays with some recommendations to improve the methods to accommodate for the nanoparticles' interference possibilities. I provided a few pieces of evidence and cases where nanoparticles' interference with the assays have to be suspected and evaluated. Moreover, I published non-peer-reviewed articles and presented many talks for non-scientific audiences in public engagement activities to introduce the timely topic of nanomedicines.
