Samuel Mutiga is a plant scientist whose research focus is on genetics for disease resistance in crop plants. His major research activities have been on identification of the genetic and environmental factors for accumulation of aflatoxin and fumonisin in maize based field and laboratory experiments, and surveys. Additionally, Samuel has been leading in an international collaborative research whose goal is to enhance durable resistance to blast disease in cultivated African rice cultivars. He has a wide experience in scientific research (field, surveys and laboratory), and has worked extensively in high level donor funded international research collaborations. His skills include analytical chemistry, biometry, plant breeding/genetics, database management, microscopy and mycology.
