个人简介
Muhammad Yasir is a Microbiologist and Research Fellow at the School of Optometry and Vision Science at UNSW Sydney. His work centres on investigating the mechanisms of action of new antimicrobials that he is helping to produce in collaboration with colleagues in the School of Chemistry. These new antimicrobials are able to kill many different types of microbes including bacteria, fungi and viruses. Yasir is particularly interested in how these new antimicrobials (antimicrobial peptides and peptidomimetics) can prevent microbes from colonising surfaces. His research has applications for preventing transmission of disease and reducing the incidence of hospital-acquired infections.
His current projects include:
Mechanisms of action of antimicrobial peptides and their mimics
Investigating whether microbe can become resistant to these novel antimicrobials
Coating surfaces with the antimicrobials and understanding their mode of action once the antimicrobials are bound to surfaces.
