G. Carlota Cubelos is a Sustainability, HCD & UX Design Researcher with a doctorate from the program in Sustainability Science - Global Leadership Initiative (GPSS-GLI) at The University of Tokyo (Graduate School of Frontier Sciences). Her main research topics are Human-Centered Design (HCD), User-Experience (UX), design thinking, collaborative design (Co-Design), design ethnography, and Design for Sustainability (DfS). Her Ph.D. thesis dealt with humanitarian assistance and Disaster Risk Reduction through Human-Centered Design, User Experience (UX) Design, and Collaborative research processes using the experiences and collaboration of vulnerable groups in small tsunami risk communities (in order to create more adapted emergency designed kits, survivors’ spaces, aid services, etc.). Her research work was awarded with the 1st prize in The University of Tokyo GPSS-GLI Scientific Poster Award. She studied a Bachelor in Design and a Master in Production Design at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). After that, she recived the EU Erasmus + Scholarship at the Aalto University in Helsinki (Finland) to work as a research intern at the ENCORE research group in the fields of Co-Design, HCD and UX. She obtained her Ph.D. at The University of Tokyo (東京大学, UTokyo) under the prestigious Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship from The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan (MEXT), with the Embassy of Japan in Spain recommendation from 2017.
