Manganelli Maura

Degree in Biology and PhD in Ecology in 1995. Permanent researcher at Istituto Superiore di Sanità (Italian National Institute of Health) in Environment and Health Dept. She carries out research and institutional activities in the field of water quality and human health risk assessment associated with exposure to cyanotoxins in fresh waters, marine algal toxins and pathogenic microorganisms. She has been the leader of a National research project on marine pathogenic bacteria and their relation with the biotic and abiotic environment. She participated in several international projects (project “CREICO/microbial carbon cycling”, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF, USA); project "Plankton Community Structure and Iron Distribution in the Southern Drake Passage", funded by NSF; research project OC/EFSA/SCER/2014/04 Review of literature on cyanobacteria toxins in food; EFSA Partnering Grant GP/EFSA/ENCO/2020/03). She has been appointed as expert in marine microbial pathogens for the implementation of the European Marine Strategy Framework Directive. She recently started to study the involvement of model gut bacteria in the metabolism of natural toxins and the role of natural organisms as cyanobacteria on the diffusion and transmission of antibiotic resistance genes. She is Review editor of the international scientific journal ‘Aquatic Microbial Ecology’ and reviewer of other peer reviewed international journals.
