I have spent a major part of my research career investigating human behavior relevant for face-to-face conversation. For example, I have studied timing and other prosodic aspects of turn-taking; vocal and visual backchannel feedback; and interlocutor similarity in conversation. Throughout this work, exploring the benefits of human-likeness in spoken dialogue systems has always been an important strand.
