An interdisciplinary scientist, Mateus Batistella pursues a multidimensional approach in landscape ecology, land use and land cover change, geospatial research and innovation for agriculture and the environment. He is a senior researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), a Professor at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Minnesota.
