He is currently a Professor at NIT, and a head of research laboratory “Low-temperature synthesis of nano-carbon materials.” He was a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the Surface Science Society of Japan (2004-2008), and is a member of the program committee of The Japan Society of Applied Physic. He has about 20 years’ experience of works on the ion-solid interactions and on the precise surface analyses of materials. His recent research activities include the low-temperature fabrication of one-dimensional nanomaterials based on the ion-solid interactions, especially the room-temperature growth of carbon nanofibers and the low-temperature fabrication of ZnO nanoneedles, and their applications. He has published more than 150 papers in international journals and contributed to 4 books. He was awarded Nagai Award from Nagai Foundation for Science & Technology in 2007.
