My overall research interest is the understanding of basic biological mechanisms that mediate immunopathogenesis of human disease. As a graduate and masters student, I accomplished research training in two different laboratories at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), where I achieved experience in microbiology, biochemical and molecular techniques. During my PhD and as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. Ricardo Madrid at the Dr. Muñoz-Fernández Immunobiology laboratory (Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón), my research focused primarily on understanding the HIV-1 replication cycle in order to find new anti-HIV therapeutic approaches. In January 2016, I joined the laboratory of Dr. Nigrovic at Brigham and Women´s Hospital (Harvard Medical School) as a postdoctoral fellow to study the mechanisms underlying the associations between genetic risk loci and arthritis. Dr. Nigrovic is a very committed mentor, and working in his laboratory has provided me the opportunity to explore highly innovative genetic techniques to better understand inflammatory arthritis as well as other autoinflammatory diseases. Further, under the supervision of Prof. Nigrovic and collaborator Prof. Raychaudhuri, I have participated in a multidisciplinary team at the interface of arthritis biology and medicine, functional genomics, and bioinformatics. Being part of the Nigrovic lab also provides me the opportunity to access to translational research resources through Prof. Nigrovic’s arthritis biorepositories and the JBC. Finally, being part of the rich immunology community of Harvard Medical School provides the ideal environment to advance my research training while broadening my expertise by participating in important projects that diverge significantly from my previous work.
