Mariusz P. Kowalewski graduated (DVM) in 2002 from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Warmia and Mazury, Olsztyn, Poland; (2002-2006) Clinic for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Andrology of Large- and Small Animals, PhD program in reproductive biology, Faculties of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, Justus-Liebig-University (JLU) Giessen, Germany, member of the German Research Foundation (DFG) sponsored Graduate College "Cell-Cell Interaction in Reproduction"; (2006-2007) postdoctoral training, JLU, Institute of Veterinary Anatomy, Histology and Embryology; (2007-2009) postdoctoral training, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), School of Medicine, Department of Cell Biology and Biochemistry, Lubbock, Texas, USA, group of Dr. Douglas M. Stocco (studies on STAR-mediated regulation of steroidogenesis); from 2009, PI in own research group, Institute of Veterinary Anatomy, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich (UZH), Zurich, Switzerland. In 2012, obtained Venia legendi (Habilitation) for the fields of Veterinary Anatomy, Histology and Embryology from UZH, the title of thesis: “Studies on endocrine regulation of canine luteal and placental function.” 2014 promoted to the position of a Professor of Functional Microanatomy of the Vetsuisse Faculty, UZH. Current position (Since 2020): Professor of Veterinary Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, leader of the Group of Reproductive Endocrinology and Head of the Institute of Veterinary Anatomy, Vetsuisse Faculty, UZH. He teaches veterinary gross anatomy, histology, embryology, developmental and reproductive biology. Research interest: Comparative reproductive biology and endocrinology of domestic animals; luteal function and conceptus-maternal communication in accompanying animals; molecular mechanisms of STAR-dependent steroidogenesis.
