Mariusz Stolarski

My research activities cover various aspects of breeding, cultivation, productivity, harvest, logistic and usability of industrial and energy crops, mainly: short rotation coppice (willow, poplar, black locust, etc.); herbaceous crops (Virginia mallow, willowleaf sunflower, cup plant, Jerusalem artichoke, etc.); grasses (miscanthus, prairie cordgrass, etc.); non-edible oil crops (e.g. crambe, camelina) for multipurpose utilization (industrial and energy) as an element of circular bioeconomy. Research studies have produced technologies of perennial species cultivation and processing lignocellulosic biomass with a view to obtaining solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. Very important elements of the research is an assessment of the economic and energy efficiency technologies of many perennial lignocellulosic crops and non-edible oil species. I also conduct research on the life cycle assessment (LCA) of biomass production of perennial crops and their use for the production of plant extracts for medical, veterinary and nutritional purposes. My research interests also include assessment of thermophysical and chemical properties of biomass, logistics and cascade utilization of other types of agricultural and forest biomass and their derivatives. Moreover I running with the analysis of the possibilities of using biomass and other renewable energy sources at the individual, local, regional, national and international levels. I have published over 140 original papers and I’m a co-author of a patent and 11 willow cultivars.
