Bio
Associate Professor Marie Caltabiano has 20 years of teaching experience in clinical health psychology and is a recipient of both an Australian Learning & Teaching Council Citation (ALTC) and a James Cook University Faculty Teaching Citation 2010 for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning. Marie was awarded the 2014 APS Health College Award of Distinction.
She is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), a Member of the American Psychological Association, the Public Health Association of Australia, and the College of Health Psychologists. She is the Deputy Chair of APS College of Health Psychologists.
Her principal areas of research are psychosocial aspects of health, stress and coping; health promotion and disease prevention; women’s health in particular the climateric; Type 2 diabetes and self-regulation; adult attachment and health processes; social self-efficacy within the doctor-patient relationship; caregiving in dementia, and resilient ageing.
Marie is co-author of Health psychology: Biopsychosocial interactions now in its 2nd Australasian edition, and co-editor of Applied topics in health psychology.
She has published 7 books in total and close to 80 research papers/Abstracts in refereed conference proceedings and journals, both national and international.
Marie is part of the HART-BEAT research group (Health practitioners And Researchers Together-Blood, Endothelium And Tissue) - an alliance between laboratory based researchers and clinicians within the Division of Tropical Health & Medicine, health practitioners and their patients.
