个人简介
Maria Isabel Marques Dias, Portuguese, has born in Lisbon, August 30, 1965.
She specializes in Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Technological properties of Clays, particularly for special applications, in view of its potential industrial use. She took the first steps in this subject at a national level in PhD and MSc degree dissertations focused in special clays (i.e. palygorskite) from Portuguese Tertiary basins, held respectively in 1993 and 1998, in the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon, having obtained the highest score in both. Noteworthy is the work of the PhD dissertation titled " Mineralogical and Technological Characterization of Special Clays from Portuguese Tertiary Basins."
In 2014 she has obtained the "Agregação" degree (Habilitation), in Georesources — with a report in a curricular unit entitled “Clays, Properties and Applications” proposed for the Doctoral Programm in Georesources (DeCivil, Instituto Superior Técnico, UL) and discussion of a lesson entitled “Clays in human health. Crystalchemistry, Bioavailability and Radioactivity".
After years of expertise in developing and implementing mineralogical, chemical and technological characterization of clays, she has used the knowledge gained in this area in other fields, such as in the environmental and cultural heritage domains, starting a new path in her career, at Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (ITN) in 1998. Here she developed skills in the application of nuclear methods of analysis in geosciences, environment, NORM, archaeology, art history, among other areas, with special focus on the development of national and international projects in Earth Sciences and Environment, Cultural Heritage (movable and immovable) and Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (“WEEE”) treatment, recovery and recycling, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of most of them.
She has been the coordinator researcher, responsible in IST-ITN and / or team member of projects funded by the European Comission, Foundation for Science and Technology, GRICES / CSIC / CNRS, Feder, EDIA, CRUP, International Atomic Energy Agency, Portuguese Institute of Archaeology, as well as other public or private institutions.
She has established numerous national and international collaborations in research and education with several universities and research centers, and has participated in supervision of students of different academic degrees and of master and doctoral programs. She is teaching courses for doctoral, masters and undergraduate degree seminars in national and international universities in the fields of geosciences, geology, mineralogy and geochemistry of clays, environment and archaeometry.
She has participated actively in the organization of international conferences in Portugal and in national and international scientific committees at different levels. Her academic degrees, together with the research work developed at the Faculty of Sciences and later at IST / ITN in different areas and in partnership with other institutions, as well as, teaching at undergraduate and doctoral and master's programs reflect the multidisciplinary nature of her career, and appetence to promote collaborations with various universities, research centers and other public and private institutions, national and international.
She belongs to several national and international professional associations and has been President of the Society of Iberian Archaeometry Applied to Cultural Heritage (SaPaC).
Apart from two theses, she is the author and / or co-author of numerous publications, including book chapters, articles in international peer reviewed magazines, national peer reviewed magazines and in international Proceedings. She was invited to several lectures, including plenary, at conferences and international seminars. She is author and / or co-author of oral presentations and panel presentations. She has participated in Spanish and Portuguese exhibitions / museums catalogs.
In addition she has high impact management activities:
- She is since 2005 responsible for the luminescence dating laboratory.
- She is a member, and coordinates since 2015, the Engineering and Nuclear Techniques group (Engenharia e Técnicas Nucleares - ETN) ) at the Centro de Ciências e Tecnologias Nucleares – C2TN, Campus Tecnológico e Nuclear, Instituto Superior Técnico, Polo de Loures.
- Since May 2014 she is Member of the Board for Loures Campus Management, Instituto Superior Técnico, Campus Tecnológico e Nuclear.
- Since 2015 she was elected Member o the "Conselho de Escola" , Instituto Superior Técnico.
- Since 2020 she is Vice-President of Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, with the financing management responsability.
- Since 2020 she is vice-president of IST-ID - Associação do Instituto Superior Técnico para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento.
- Since 2020 she is member of the board of ADIST - Associação Para O Desenvolvimento Do Instituto Superior Tecnico.
