Dr. Maria Carmen VILLARAN is the director of the Food and Health group at TECNALIA. PhD in Chemical Engineering by the Basque Country University and Bachelor in Chemical Engineering. More than 25 years of experience in R&D and technology transfer projects in the Food sector. She has participated in 7 international research projects (coordinating one of them), 25 research contracts with private companies and more than 50 public funded R&D projects. Her research interest focuses on the development of processes for obtaining ingredients through physical-chemical processes, their stabilization by drying and micro and nanoencapsulation and development of new foods, including functional foods. She works in close contact with the food industry, carrying out developments that allow it to increase its competitiveness. 20+ peer-reviewed scientific publications, 3 patents and supervisor of 2 PhDs.
