Dr. Margaret B. Murphy received her B.A. in Biology from Johns Hopkins in 1998 and received her Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 2005. Her Ph.D. research focused on the effects of atrazine, an herbicide that is widely used in the US, on amphibian development. She came to CityU in 2005 as a postdoctoral fellow, took up the post of lecturer in 2007 and became an assistant professor in the department in 2009. Her primary research field is ecotoxicology, specifically the effects of contaminants on wildlife, especially on species that are not commonly represented in risk assessment. She also works on the determination of mechanisms of action of novel and emerging pollutants using both in vitro cell and tissue systems and in vivo toxicity testing.
